English Bulldogs are amazing family pets

Before you run out and get one, be sure to read our top 5 tips!

Tip #1 – Obtain Health Insurance

English Bulldogs are known to be one of the more higher maintenance dog breeds. There are several known health issues:

  • Major respiratory problems.
  • Overheating.
  • Severe Skin Allergies.
  • Eczema, Dry Skin , Acne.
  • Degenerative Spine Disease.
  • Cherry Eye.
  • Hip Dysplasia.
  • Joint & Ligament Injuries.

Some of these are easily solved by keeping your English Bulldog fit and not fat. Even with that in mind, the occasional vet visit will happen. You can read about our insurance plan here.

Tip #2 – Do Not Skimp on the Daily Maintenance

Most English Bulldogs have short curly tails and those tails are so short and curly that the “pocket” between the tail and the body need to be cleaned once a day or it can cause an infection. No one wants that. All English Bulldogs need their folds cleaned. The dark spots around a dog’s face are called  ‘tear stains.’ We highly suggest using this cream to get both these areas in good health.

Tip #3 – Daily Exercise is needed

When thinking about English Bulldogs you think of fat rolly polly dogs, but in all honesty, that is not healthy at all. That being said, most EB’s are not big on exercise. They aren’t the breed to take hiking, but a short walk around the block a few times a day is great for this breed! Just be sure not to do it when it’s too hot, EB’s do NOT do very well in the heat at all. If your dog must be outside for any reason make sure he has access to water and try to only keep the time outside limited.
