Children need social interaction!

Well, that’s what we’re told by almost everyone. Children need to socialize. Apparently people think living in an RV and homeschooling means that my kids have no social skills. Let me tell you, that it’s QUITE the opposite! All three of them are very social. They make friends with anyone and of all ages.

Now, one thing you may not know is that RV’ers in general are a very nice bunch of people. Of course, there are still some that stick to themselves, but that’s their prerogative. Sometimes there are kids in the same RV park and sometimes there’s not.

Social Media is great for SOCIALIZATION

Due to the fact that we travel for work, we are usually in a place for a few weeks to a few months at a time. The longest time we have been in one place is seven months. The moment I know where we’re going, I join the local moms group on Facebook. I search ” *location* moms ” and ” *location* homeschool .” Most areas have at least one big group. Let’s take our current location for example. I searched “Naples Moms” and one big group popped up with over 4,000 members. I knew that’s what I wanted and requested to join. Once I’m approved, I make a lengthy post about why we’ve come to their city and that we’re looking for other homeschool families.

Let’s stay with our current location of Naples, FL. On my initial post to the mom’s group, I was given links to a few local homeschool groups and made a few new friend connections. A few examples of our escapades here – we’ve been invited to see a movie with another family and have gone mini golf (and fed their Caimans!) with 2 other families. Next week a local homeschool teen is going to lead a “weekly fishing group.” The kids and I are really excited for that since we’ve NEVER fished before EVER!

Feeding the Caimans!

Another perk for joining the local moms group

When wanting info on a local area who do you usually ask? People who live there and who knows best on where to go and when and usually where the deals are and such? Moms, obviously! I ask for things like-

  • Any English Bulldog moms here? What vet would you suggest?
  • Any movie theaters here have discounted ticket days?
  • What fun child friendly activities are around town that are free or cheap?
  • I need an urgent care! Which one is your go to?

I think you get the idea.

I hope this gave you a good idea on how we socialize the kids! If you have any questions, please comment below!
