UPDATE- 1/4/2018

I just received word that OneKid will closing down the project for the time being. I will update when they are back up and running.

I work for OneKid.

I teach adorable Chinese children to speak English. Plain and Simple. OneKid is a newer company in the field of ESL. A friend referred the company to me and I contacted them immediately. The idea of having a “job” after being a stay at home mom for 7 years, I was a little intimidated. Then the idea of making money was awesome! I was asked to send in a one minute “selfie video.” I assume this is for OneKid to get to know you, hear you speak, and see your ‘likability’.

Honestly, at first this task freaked me out! When I had received this email, I was walking around the mall with the kiddos. We decided to stop at The Cheesecake Factory for a snack. While waiting on our cheesecakes, I thought to myself, if I don’t send this video NOW, I’ll never send it! So, right there, with my kids being as quiet as they could, I recorded the video and sent it immediately.

Time for the interview.

The next day, they emailed back that they liked what they saw and requested my resume (that took a while to update) and wanted to schedule a trial lesson. I was given log in info (I had to download their program) and the lesson plan, I must have logged in and practiced that for at least 10 times! I was SO nervous! It was finally time for the trial lesson.

When I logged in the OneKid reps were ready to start. It honestly wasn’t terrible. Their biggest critique for me was to slow down. Makes sense as most of the children have NO experience with English at all. Thirty minutes later, I was informed I was hired! WeChat is their preferred way to contact you but will use email from time to time. At this time, I was also informed that they were prepping to take an 8 day holiday for their National Day Golden Week.

Time to work!

Over the next 2 weeks after their holiday, I was given 3 classes. They wanted to make sure that I understood what I was doing before they gave me more classes. Once I was more comfortable and they could trust I knew what I was doing, they started to give me more and more classes as time went on. Two months later, I now have a pretty full schedule.

The Details.

Currently, OneKid needs teachers for Mon-Fri from 5AM-8AM EST and Fri and Sat evenings from 8PM-8AM (times are when we are NOT in Daylight Saving Time). Please understand that this does not mean, I need to work ALL those hours, I simply give them my availability and they book me accordingly. Classes are 25-30 minutes, depending on the lesson and the introductory pay is $7-$9 per class. If you are interested in becoming a teacher with OneKid, comment your email and I’ll send you the pertinent information. Below is a screenshot of a lesson, just to give you an idea of the program.
